Cindy Gallop, formerly chief executive of BBH, New York, says Google "clearly wants to replace the advertising industry in its totality." While other industry leaders were less definitive in their public remarks, it's clear that concern over the growing influence of Google and Microsoft is widespread. Sir Martin Sorrell, chief executive of WPP Group, said ad shops are being priced out of the market when it comes to acquiring tech startups with advertising applications.
