Many Miss. towns see reduced elevations in new FEMA maps

Several Mississippi towns will have until February to adopt new FEMA flood maps, which reduced elevations in many towns. Adoption of the maps -- the first updates since 1984 -- is required if the towns want to take part in the National Flood Insurance Program, which could be beneficial to residents who might not be able to get private flood insurance. Some towns have already adopted the new maps.
