Partnerships are an emerging force in sustainability programs

Strategic tie-ups between retailers and manufacturers are emerging as a powerful way to promote environmental stewardship and sustainability across the supply chain, writes Carl Smith, CEO and president of Call2Recycle. More retailers are recognizing that "collaboration is becoming imperative for effective sustainability action" and that managing "the full product lifecycle ... first requires alignment within the company ... and then partnerships with suppliers," according to the 2013 Retail Sustainability Report of the Retail Industry Leaders Association.
