NPs fill in health care gaps to meet growing demand

Nurse practitioners continue to be in demand -- filling the gap in areas where there are not enough primary care physicians and in busy ERs that have to deal with patients who come in for non-urgent medical issues. It also makes financial sense for doctors to work with NPs to help manage their patient load, some practitioners say.
