Mortality rates drop 50% using ICU checklist, study finds

When ICU physicians used a checklist, mortality rates decreased by 50%, according to a study by researchers at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. The report in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine said the checklist, similar to those used by airline pilots, focused on issues that often are overlooked during daily rounds, such as ventilator weaning and antibiotic duration.
