China at the forefront of smart grid spending

The Chinese government's efforts to reduce the nation's urban pollution problem will help propel a surge in smart grid spending even as a declining population leads to lower energy demand over the coming years. China's 12th Five Year Plan includes $15.4 billion of funding for next-generation metrology, communications, information and control technologies, according to a report from Pike Research, which estimates the country will generate smart grid revenue of $127 billion in seven years.
