Environmental groups sue owners of reclaimed W.Va. coal mines

The Sierra Club and two other environmental groups are alleging Clean Water Act violations in a lawsuit against the owners of a pair of defunct West Virginia coal mines. The groups also have sued over three other reclaimed mines they say are causing water pollution despite being restored with vegetation and released from permit and bonding requirements. The lawsuits are seeking fines of $37,500 per violation per day.
