La. corrections agency chooses US Telehealth in telemedicine deal

Texas-based US Telehealth has been chosen by the Louisiana Department of Corrections to provide telemedicine services for prisoners in the state. Several lawmakers were displeased that the contract went to an out-of-state company, but Department of Corrections Undersecretary Thomas Bickham said US Telehealth was tapped because it submitted a lower bid than the Louisiana State University Health Care Services Division, which previously provided the care. The change will be effective July 1.
