Jenkins in this commentary advises those seeking such positions to take a closer look at cover letters and resumes to ensure they present relevant skills and experience. References matter, too, Jenkins writes, and should include only "the people whose endorsements will carry the most weight, either because of their positions or because their names are known to committee members."
