Parents, teachers in Mass. district lament closing of Italian program

The cash-strapped Burlington, Mass., district will soon close a popular Italian instruction program at elementary schools and lay off the four employees connected to the program. Officials, parents and teachers said students have benefited from learning a second language. The instruction was partly funded by the Italian Consul General through a program that promotes Italian language and culture in New England schools.
