Snapchat will start generating revenue with in-app purchases

Snapchat says it will monetize the popular disappearing-photo sharing application through unspecified in-app purchases, possibly filters, stickers, font selection or "the ability to send longer snaps, beyond the usual 10-second limit," Jordan Crook writes. The move comes on the heels of executives at IVP justifying its $60 million infusion into the company despite a lack of an established revenue-generating model. Snapchat is also offering a limited service for users younger than 13 years old called SnapKidz; the no-photo-sharing version is intended to conform to new Children's Online Privacy Protection Act regulations.
