ICANN set to approve new domain system

Current top-level domain name suffixes -- .com, .org, .edu -- are governed by the not-for-profit Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. The group is expected to OK a new plan to permit entities to create their own custom top-level domains, provided they are not offensive or violations of registered trademarks.
