Basel panel proposes method for calculating leverage ratio

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision has taken a tough stance on the amount of risk banks can take on with a proposed leverage ratio. "This ensures investors and other stakeholders to have a comparable measure of bank leverage, regardless of domestic accounting standards," Chairman Stefan Ingves said. The regulator's calculation methodology would affect mostly banks that hold a significant amount of derivatives.
