Prevalence of heart attack pain may vary with diabetes

A study of 266 patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction found 66% of those with diabetes experienced slight or no pain, while 78% of patients without diabetes reported moderate or severe pain. Despite the impaired pain perception, diabetes patients did not visit the emergency department later than those without the disease, according to the research presented at the American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions.
