Work to expand California's Bay Area Rapid Transit network is underway and involves "hundreds of construction workers, dozens of trades and billions of dollars," writes Linda Taaffe. The 16-mile project's initial phase from the existing Fremont station to the Warm Springs terminal is projected to cost $890 million, while the next leg from Warm Springs to the Berryessa station in San Jose would cost $2.3 billion.
