Small study finds higher brain connectivity in children with autism

MRI scans of 40 children revealed that those with autism spectrum disorder had higher-than-normal connections in five major brain networks including the salience network, compared with children without autism. The presence of hyperconnectivity may signal differences in the brain's functional organization between children with autism and those without the condition, according to the study published in the journal JAMA Psychiatry.
