North Pole's Arctic sea ice could melt this summer

In a dramatic illustration of global climate change, the ice over the Arctic Ocean may melt away this summer. Scientists at the National Snow and Ice Data Center estimate there is a 50-50 chance of an ice-free Arctic sea this year. Last year, the ice retreated far enough to reveal the Northwest Passage for the first time in recorded history.
