Gates and Rotary foundations step up polio eradication efforts

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced plans to match two-to-one each dollar Rotary International raises for a polio eradication initiative, up to $35 million annually for the next five years. Polio remains endemic only in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria, but the virus may be resurging in the Horn of Africa, and polio vaccinators have been killed recently.
