N.C. groups report increase in food insecurity during summer

Officials with the Second Harvest Food Bank in Winston-Salem, N.C., say more families reach out for supplemental meals during the summer because students who receive free or reduced-priced meals during the school year do not have as much access to these meals during the summer. "Hunger never takes a holiday or a vacation," Executive Director Clyde Fitzgerald said. "So the problem exists year-round, but it gets worse in the summertime because school's out."
