Retirement assets reached record high in first quarter

U.S. retirement assets increased 4.6% in the first quarter to hit a record high of $20.8 trillion, according to figures from the Investment Company Institute. IRAs made up the largest part of those assets, worth $5.68 trillion. Defined-contribution plans also hit a record high of $5.37 trillion in assets.
