Verizon makes play for Canada's Wind Mobile, approaches rival

Verizon Wireless has offered $600 million to $800 million to buy Canada's Wind Mobile and is in discussions with Mobilcity, a smaller rival, according to various media accounts, which follow reports from a week ago that Verizon was in talks with Wind. Verizon has indicated to Mobilcity that a deal would depend on the outcome of its discussions with Wind. Both Canadian telecoms are struggling in a market dominated by Bell Canada, Telus and Rogers Communications, Alastair Sharp and Euan Rocha write.
