Facebook searches fuel speculation that it will compete with Google

Social-media commentators are speculating that Facebook could be planning to launch a major social-search campaign, using its Open Graph system and third-party "like" buttons to power a socially charged search engine. Facebook officials initially confirmed the plan to the All Facebook blog after the blog noticed that third-party sites were turning up in Facebook search results, but the company backpedaled and began downplaying the scale of the project when other reporters asked about the move. "This has become a full scale attack on Google on all fronts at this point as Facebook has officially entered the Internet search market," insists All Facebook's Nick O'Neill.
