Fuel cell engine achieves breakthrough in durability

The U.K.'s ACAL Energy says its proton exchange membrane hydrogen fuel cell has achieved 10,000 hours of endurance, equivalent to that of lightweight diesel engines. The feat was achieved by replacing platinum as a catalyst with a patented liquid, which reduces cost as well as improving endurance. "With our technology, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles can drive over 500 miles per tank of fuel and can be refueled [with hydrogen] in less than five minutes," said ACAL chief Greg McCray.
