New NHS policies will strengthen patients' drug rights

The British government this week announced new health policies that will mandate primary-care trusts to grant patients access to new drugs before assessment by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence, as long as they provide clear benefits. The initiative, unveiled in time for the National Health Service's 60th anniversary, will also increase NICE's funding to help it review more drugs for NHS coverage.
