Palm Beach's Downtown at the Gardens spends $2 million on rehab

South Florida's Downtown at the Gardens retail center in Palm Beach is undergoing a renovation, with its new owners spending close to $2 million on such upgrades as a $600,000 carousel, new escalators, signage and landscaping. The Berman family acquired the 337,000-square-foot complex out of foreclosure 10 months ago. Back then, it "was dead and dying," Kevin Berman says. "Now, it's up and coming." In the past 10 months, occupancy has increased to 80% from 60%.
