Eco-friendly is good, but economic sustainability counts as well

The Oregon Sustainability Center, a $59 million, 10-story, eco-friendly building planned for Portland State University, faces challenges. This week, a state legislature subcommittee refused to support revenue bonds worth more than $37 million that are needed to build the center. "Sponsors should take the Legislature's balk this week as ample notice the project will go forward only when it shows itself to be as economically sustainable as it is environmentally," writes the editorial board of The Oregonian.
