EIA reports significant capacity increase at refineries

U.S. refineries had a total processing capacity of 17.7 millions barrels of oil per day on Jan. 1, the highest in 28 years, according to the Energy Information Administration. But some of that capacity went unused because of weak demand for gasoline and other refined products, EIA said.
