Tricare steps back from compounded meds with unapproved ingredients

Prescription drugs with ingredients unapproved by the FDA will not be covered by Tricare beginning July 24, Express Scripts wrote in a letter informing 44,000 Tricare beneficiaries about the change. Tricare is not allowed to offer prescription drug coverage for compounds with unapproved ingredients, the safety and efficacy of which are not established, Tricare spokesman Austin Camacho said.
