J.C. Penney expansion plans include mall exodus

Almost 80% of J.C. Penney's new stores will not be built in malls and will be smaller than the retailer's classic locations. Penney CEO Myron "Mike" Ullman hopes the emphasis on off-mall stores will rejuvenate the brand's image by providing an easier shopping experience and fresh concepts.
