Low M&A rate confounds investors, advisers

U.S. markets in the first half of 2013 saw the lowest level of merger and acquisition activity in four years, and that has left experts scratching their heads. Mergers in the first six months were down 13% compared with the same period last year. Worldwide, deals have hit a 10-year low.
