Canine distemper hits Kentucky shelter

A Jack Russell terrier at an animal shelter in Louisville, Ky., has died after contracting canine distemper. The discovery of the illness, which is potentially fatal among dogs, has prompted the shelter to temporarily close its doors to pets and suspend other services.
