Defining effective project-based learning

Envision Schools founder Bob Lenz collaborated with educators at his network of charter schools to develop a working definition of successful project-based learning. According to their findings, the approach must include work that is both academically rigorous and aligned with standards, and allows students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge. Well-designed projects also must address relevant issues, and move students and learning beyond the classroom environment, Lenz writes.
