LG sees smartphones as ticket to pass Samsung

South Korea's LG Electronics is making a strong move into higher-end smartphones in hopes of passing Samsung as the world's No. 2 handset maker by 2012, said Seung-kwon Ahn, the head of LG's mobile division. In an interview, Ahn said LG, which released its first smartphone in the U.S. last November, would release a new product later in the year designed to compete with the iPhone and similar devices.
