Family history of depression tied to more severe disease

A family history of depression, anxiety, alcohol dependence and drug dependence all increased the likelihood of developing the disease as well as the disease severity, an almost 30-year study found. Screening for family history could identify patients who need early intervention and who may be at risk for a recurring, disabling form of the condition, researchers said.
