Study IDs causes of race gap in cancer mortality

Researchers, controlling for socioeconomic factors, found that blacks who received identical medical treatment as patients of other races still had early deaths from some cancers, indicating that the disparity is due to biological and genetic factors. The findings held true for breast, ovarian and prostate cancer but not for lung and colon cancer, lymphoma, leukemia, or multiple myeloma.
