Obama urges lawmakers to reach a debt deal, refuses temporary fix

President Barack Obama told congressional leaders he will not approve a short-term debt deal and insisted that lawmakers work to come up with a plan that will last through the 2012 election, according to sources. Obama met with the leaders for 90 minutes Thursday outlining plans to raise the debt ceiling and cut the deficit by as much as $4 trillion.
