AMD exec: Look for Facebook, Google to design custom chips

The processor cores offered by ARM Holdings will make it possible for a wider variety of companies, including Facebook and Google, to design their own chips, much like Apple does for its mobile devices, according to Andrew Feldman of Advanced Micro Devices. As a result, "[W]eb giants are looking at co-developing ARM-based chips that will take advantage of the greater levels of customization offered outside of the CPU so they can optimize for their own applications' needs," Stacey Higginbotham writes.
