SEMI: 2013 to be a so-so year for IC gear, 2014 to be better

With capital spending driven by silicon foundries and manufacturers of NAND flash memory devices, global sales of semiconductor production equipment are forecast to increase 21.2% to $43.98 billion in 2014, according to Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International. After a slowdown in equipment orders by Samsung Electronics and other chipmakers in the second half of 2012, SEMI estimates that this year's equipment market will total $36.3 billion, a 1.7% decline compared with last year.
