Reconsidering the meaning of an operating system

There's plenty of talk about Google's planned operating system, Chrome OS, as a potential rival to Microsoft, but Saul Hansell suggests that it is shaking up the whole notion of the operating system and its importance to an enterprise. Chrome OS will be designed to run the Chrome browser alone, with the idea that no other software programs will be needed -- a decidedly different business model from Microsoft's.
