Congress acts as test case for waste-to-energy use

The work of Congress generates about 5,000 tons of trash each year, and that trash is sent to a Covanta Energy waste-to-energy facility in Virginia, where it's converted into enough power to run 250 houses. "We set out to make energy from waste the cleanest, most reliable source of electricity," said Paul Gilman, sustainability chief at Covanta.
