Hearing aids have made major technological strides in just the past decade, notes Sid Higgins, principal mechanical engineer for technology development at Starkey Hearing Technologies. Some devices are smaller than kidney beans, and voice control replaces more awkward means of pressing and flipping to make adjustments. Meanwhile, nanotechnology protects the delicate devices from the ear's often hostile environment.
