Technology harvests energy from train braking

Regenerating technology built into new trains can harness the energy used in stopping one train to help get another going. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority is now experimenting with regeneration, much like that found in hybrid cars. "This is a technology that makes the whole system more efficient," said Andrew Gillespie, SEPTA's chief engineering officer.
