Utah is transitioning to a managed Medicaid dental program in Davis, Salt Lake, Utah and Weber counties in an effort to save money and improve budget predictability. A group representing the state's pediatric dentists has expressed concern that access to care may be delayed or restricted under the plan. However, Republican state Rep. Jim Dunnigan said he expected a smooth transition after meeting with representatives from Delta Dental and Premier Access, which were awarded the Medicaid contracts. State officials said the plans have brought more than 400 dentists onboard, and patients will be allowed to change providers if they are unhappy with theirs.
