Federal government building is San Francisco's first green high-rise

The Bay Area is getting its first green high-rise office building in San Francisco's new eco-friendly Federal Building. The General Services Administration's $144 million project, due to be completed next March, is expected to use half the energy of a similarly sized, conventional office building, with such features as a 151,000-square-foot metabolic perforated skin with rotating metal panels that act like a sunscreen to reduce cooling costs.
