Jessell: Experts have spoken, FCC spectrum plan won't work

Engineers at a June 25 event to analyze the technical aspects of the FCC plan to reapportion broadcast spectrum for broadband use, pretty much shot down the elements of the spectrum switch, which include high-quality signals sharing the same space; band repacking; cellularization of the broadcasting system; and VHF propagation, according to columnist Harry A. Jessell. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, having followed through on his promise to hold the forum, now needs to "listen" to these expert opinions, Jessell writes.
