Here comes the Sunshine Act

The Physician Payment Sunshine Act is coming into effect, requiring drug and device makers to disclose financial relationships with physicians. Smaller manufacturers may be less prepared than their larger counterparts, some of which have already tested their disclosure systems, and many physicians are also unprepared, writes Mary Bennett, a vice president at compliance consulting firm NAVEX Global. "The most prepared physicians will want to create a talk track or handout explaining their payment data to patients who ask ... open dialogue with their industry partners to determine the impact of future payments on reporting and ... set up a tracking system for reportable transfers of value," Bennett writes.
