Senate seeks reconciliation on cybersecurity with draft bill

A Senate committee has released a draft version of a new cybersecurity bill that relies on voluntary standards for critical industries and increased education on cyber-risks to address the nation's network security vulnerabilities. The bill, from the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, steps back from controversial mandatory standards proposed last year and places authority for monitoring cybersecurity compliance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology rather than the Department of Homeland Security.
