Mobility pays off as more workers go remote, survey indicates

Employees of firms with staffs of fewer than 500 workers are increasingly reliant on mobile tools to do business outside the office, according to a survey of about 2,200 small-business owners and executives. The trend is being driven by a mass adoption of wireless technologies, as 71% of professionals at small and medium-sized companies said that their employees rely on mobile technologies to work remotely, while 59% said mobility is a critical component of their business model. Officials at firms that rely heavily on a mobile workforce reported average sales for 2010 that were almost double those of nonmobile companies.
