Microsoft throws own app market to outside developers

Third-party developers will be able to start writing applications July 27 for Microsoft's Windows Marketplace as the company tries to find a competitive edge in the white-hot space. The move comes as Microsoft is prepping to launch Windows Mobile 6.5 later in the year, and the company also announced Tuesday that older handsets would have access to the online applications.
