New safety measures planned for San Francisco Bay Bridge

San Francisco has hired engineering firm T.Y. Lin to help reduce the number of cracked eyebars on the Bay Bridge. Under the $1 million contract, Lin will design a system that could be installed in the event of another eyebar failure similar to those that occurred earlier this year. The firm will also design dampers to cut down on traffic vibrations on the bridge.
